Zaton - sea-side resort situated at the end of the long bay, 10 km west from Šibenik, placed in the chanel which connects Prukljan Lake with Šibenik bay. The bay of Zaton is surrounded by hills of Rastovac (133 m), Križeva glava (102 m) and Glavica (147 m).

Surrounded by beauty of the sea, islands and National park "Kornati" on one side, and Prukljan Lake with National park "Krka" on other side, makes splendid junction of bluish and greenish that makes strong impression on observer. It's ideal place for holiday and recreation. Zaton has unique rowing trail. It has been used in previous Mediterranean Games 1979. Today many of rowers from Croatia and foreign countries use it for training throughout the year.

Zaton surrounding is well known for its historical and cultural sights as well as interesting tourist offer. Here are two National parks – “Krka Waterfalls” and “Kornati Islands”. Tourists find this place very peaceful for its quiet sleep, away from loud disco noise. Here the river Krka flows into the Adriatic, and makes the sea less salty (mixed). In other hand, You can swimm and sun almost everywhere. Still, if You wish for sand and salt sea, we are not far from other tourist places - Vodice, Primošten, Murter (few minutes driving) where You can find all other subjects adjusted for fun and excitement.

First news about the settlement on today's spot comes from 15. Century. From 16. Century it's independent district of saint Juraj with church of the same name, but the patron (protector) of Zaton is saint Roko (16. of August - fest and procession). From ancient times Zaton was known by boatmen, fishermen and agriculturists, so here it can be found some good drops of vine ("Babic", "Plavina", "Rose", and dessert vine "Prosek"), and sweet fig with juicy olive, that still today, rips under golden Mediterranean sun. Fishermen are hunting sea and river fish, and because of specific mix of sea and river water, here can be found some specific kinds of fish and shells.

Today, Zaton is one of those destinations that tourist "gourmets" are searching for, and suits with Tourist Board motto - "Mediterranean as it use to be". Its maintained architecture and harmony, with special atmosphere of river Krka and sea, makes him an excellent place for rest, out of disco-club hysteria, hotel terraces and all other attractions of younger tourist generations. When You come to Zaton, the first thing You can see are clean streets and tidiness of green surfaces, arranged with tradicional baskets made of branches and flowers. Nice walkway close to the sea, spreads about three kilometers, from the bay of "Dobri dolac" to the bay of "Šarina draga". In the small harbour the wind is not a problem. "Bura" welters the sea far from the bay, and berths are not on strokes of "Jugo".



Zaton has few public institutions – post-office, small hospital and fire center. Also, there are few shops, cafées, tawerns, sport-recreation center, restaurants, pizza-house, market-place and many other facilities that enrich tourist offer. The summer curiosity and entertainment enrich participation of many a-capella and vocal-instrumental performers.

You can start the day by drinking your coffee in one of cafes, visit the market-place and the fish-market on the way. Feel the atmosphere of a small Dalmatian town at dawn... When everything is still quiet, with a soft breeze bringing over the smell of the sea and pine... After that, you can take a walk by the sea, a bike ride or go for a jog. You can see the boats sail out to sea or watch fishermen come back... You can also rent a small boat even for a day and head for an excursion to the river Krka or Kornati islands...
