THE NOVI VINODOLSKI RIVIERA - NORTH ADRIATIC – KVARNER
SMOKVICA is an ideal place for those looking for solitary places close to the sea,
an ideal place for water sports, fishing and hunting inland. It is sheltered by Mount VELEBIT to the north, very popular among mountaineers and nature lovers, the North VELEBIT being proclaimed a National Park for its exquisite beauty.
The region is covered by Mediterranean vegetation, aromatic plants and dense pine- woods.
The KVARNER ISLANDS extend along the coast covered by luxurious Mediterranean vegetation. The off-shore island of KRK is situated opposite the small holiday resort of SMOKVICA. This island is connected to the mainland by a modern highway bridge. The other KVARNER ISLANDS - LOŠINJ, CRES AND RAB are available by ferry -boats.
In the vicinity of SMOKVICA there is a small town of KLENOVICA, once an old fishermen’s village. There you will find good restaurants with domestic food and fresh fish, cafeterias, all necessary services and entertainment.

NOVI VINODOLSKI is a small town and famous holiday resort, 45 km southeast from the big town of RIJEKA. NOVI VINODOLSKI was inhabited already in the Roman times, while in the Middle Ages it was a fortified town in possession of the famous Frankopan family noblemen. The Citadel of the Frankopans from 13th C has still been preserved. It was the place where the unique Croatian Custom Law –
The Vinodol Law written in the Glagolitic script was signed in 1288. Today the Citadel houses a large collection of antique objects and a rich ethnographic collection.

CLIMATE along the Riviera is typically Mediterranean with warm and dry summers and gentle winters. With 2500 sunny hours per year, this Riviera is among the sunniest places in Europe.
The coast is indented with many bays and coves, sandy and pebbly beaches. The Riviera is located in the vicinity of several National Parks. Inland- at a distance of 2,5 hours drive there are THE PLITVICE LAKES, the most beautiful and well-known CROATIAN NATIONAL PARK consisting of 16 connected lakes and numerous waterfalls and cascades, a part of the WORLD HERITAGE, protected by UNESCO.

RISNJAK – a mountain massif covered by dense forest, located in the Kvarner Highlands, a genuine geo-morphological monument of nature.
