A 19th century palace was, together with Prokurative, built by a town major Bajamonti, a person who has left an indeliable mark on the history of Split. Today these buildings make distinctive town features, and are a good starting point for unfolding the beauty, character and significance of town with such a rich history.
Bajamonti palace (now Deskovic) is placed between Prokurative and St. Frances church, and is overlooking Riva, famous Split promenade and Diocletians palace, on one side, and picturesque old town Varos, on the other. Those narrow, stonebound streets of Varos, still hold the taste of traditional Dalmatian life, brought through arhitecture, and cuisine. A few taverns and small restaurants can be found, that offer traditional Dalmatian gourmand delights.
