Silba is the island between Olib and Premuda with the area of 14.9 sq. kilometers. Silba has picturesque gravel and sand beaches and numerous coves. The only settlement on the island is Silba. Silba island has permanent ship connection with Zadar, Rijeka and Pula.
The island of Silba has been inhabited since the Roman period. After the Romans, the island was owned by the monastery and families from Zadar. Silba used to be famous of fishermen, wine-growers and seamen.
Silba is the first Dalmatian island if you arrive from the Northern Adriatic to the south of Croatia and is situated in Zadar's archipelago between the islands of Olib and Premud and south-east of the island Lošinj.
With its lenght of 8,5 km Silba belongs to the grooup of smaller inhabited croatian islands. Its highest spot is called Varh and is only 80 m above sea.
The island of Silba has characteristic shape of number eight and is inhabited only at the nerrowest area. You can walk in 10 minutes from the north-eastern port of Mul to the oposit port of Žalic and the distance is aprox. 600 m.

When you once feel the characteristic smell of Mediterranean plants and herbs it will always remind you of Silba and its beauty. Another characteristic to underline is the beauty and trasparency of Silba's sea and of pebbly and sand beaches that surround the whole island.
It is very important to mention that Silba is a pedestrian zone with no car admitted, with exception of supplying vehicles, during the summer season even bycicle is not allowed. If you have children you will not be affraid to let them go free to play .
Having the mediterranean climate the average temperature during July and August is 230 C and hot afternoons are cooled by pleasent mistral wind.
The island can be reached every day from Zadar by hydrofoil and several times a week from Pula, Lošinj and Rijeka.
