Lopar is the town in the Lopar's bay on the north-western coast of the island of Rab. It has long sand beach surrounded with pine forest. The name of the place "Lopar" comes from the small church of St. Mary (St. Maria Neopari) that was mentioned already in the sources from the 14th century. On the site Punta Zidine, you can still see the remains of the antique fortification architecture. According to the legend, the legendary founder of the Republic of San Marino, stone-mason Marin, was born in Lopar.
