Kornati is an archipelago of 140 islands and reefs, that stretch along the Adriatic coast south-west from the island of Pasman, between Dugi Otok and the island of Zirje on the area of the Zadar, Biograd and Sibenik rivieras. The area of these islands cover 320 sq. kilometers, and in 1980 they become the national park because of their unique features and beauty. They were named after the biggest island, Kornat (32.6 sq. kilometers). The bigger islands are Sit, Zut, Jadra, Kurba Vela, Levrnaka, Piskera and Lavsa. The highest point is Veli Vrh on the island of Kornat. The numerous coves offer shelter to fishermen and nautical tourists. There is no fresh water, or springs, on the islands of Kornati. Kornati are mostly covered with bare rock, and in the Karst valleys there are olivegroves, fig-groves and vineyards. The most of Kornati is owned by the people from Murter and Sali, but there are no permanent settlements. Because of the exceptionally indented coast, numerous coves, clean sea rich with fish, the islands of Kornati are the paradise for nautical tourists. On some parts of the archipelago people gather sponges.

The name Kornati probably comes from the Latin word corrimare (to zdrobiti), meaning »scattered islands«. Since the 17th century, the usual name was Coronati. There are the traces of cultures from the past, and the oldest are the remains of Illyrian settlements, stone graves and mounds.

ACI PISKERA is located on the island of Piskera, in the bay protected by three small islands. It has 120 places, reception desk, workshop for smaller repairs, gas, food and drinks shop, exchange office, restaurant with fish specialties, toilets. Marina is open during the summer season. A sailing school is located there.
ACI ZUT, located on the island of Zut, that is uninhabited except for a few houses that are occasionaly occupied. It is the area ideal for all kinds of water sports.
