The city of Vodice is one of the largest tourist destinations on the Sibenik Riviera. Located on the shore of a wide bay, the city is just 12 km away from Sibenik. Archeological remains indicate the existence of a settlement here in Roman period, called Araus or Arausa Antonina. In the town's medieval center, in the collection of narrow streets, several old buildings are still preserved.
The first written record of the city dates from 1402, and is in regard to contributions for the construction of the church of St. Jakov. The church of St. Kriza on the old cemetery was built in 1421, and the Baroque parochial church of the same name was built in 1746. For the defense against the Turks in 1664. the city was fortified with strong walls and towers, and two bridges were also built. The only fort that still remains is the Coric kula.
Today Vodice is one of best-visited tourist destinations in Dalmatia, with all the modern tourist facilities, accommodation facilities and the recreational, sports and entertainment offer.
