Zavala is a small village, 7km south of Jelsa, on the southern coast of Hvar, facing open sea. It is located on the local road that goes from Jelsa, through Pitve then through the long and dark tunnel (1400 m) with traffic light because it's so narrow two cars can't pass each other.
Below the village there are several absolutely beautiful pebbly beaches with crystal clean and clear water. The most attractive beach is at Petrascica (with a cave). There is a little bar restaurant preparing freshly caught fish and refreshments. A perfect place to enjoy in holiday, with a cold beer or a glass of wine. Off the main season you can have the whole beach just for yourself.
The place hasn't been cought by mass tourism and you can enjoy a real peace and connection with the nature.
The coast between Zavala and the village of Sveta Nedjelja (10 km west of Zavala) has several little coves with wonderful fine pebble beaches where you can find some privacy. Sveta Nedjelja is especially known by its wines which have the reputation of being the best wines of the island of Hvar, particularly the Plavac red wine. The village is situated below the highest peak on the island, Sveti Nikola (St. Nicholas) 628m.
Across the sea from the village is the island of Scedro, a true natural paradise.
Neolithic pottery has been found in Grapceva cove, east of Zavala, with one of the pieces showing Europe's oldest image of a boat.
Zavala is an ideal destination for holiday those who want to escape from city crowd and to sincerely relax surrounded by the hypnotic scents of lavender and rosemary, picturesque olive trees and vineyards, clear sea with magical undersea life, extraordinary mild and healthy climate.

There are three apartments in the house. All of them have separate entrances. In front of the house there is parking space.
Apartment A*** - 4+1/ two rooms + living room - 57 sqm s, with a separate back yard and grill.
Apartment B*** - 2+2/ one room + living room - 46 sqm + 11 sqm balcony.
Apartment C*** - studio/ 2+1 - 26 sqm + small back yard and grill
The apartments have got bed-clothes, towels, and equipped kitchen for 6 persons, usage of washing machine, and grill.

The apartment is located on the first floor of the house and its size is 46 sqm (+ balcony 11 sqm ). It has a separate entrance by its own stairs over the balcony. On the balcony there is a table with chairs for unforgettable summer dinners on the open.

The apartment is located on the first floor and it has a separate stair entrance. In front of the entrance there is a porch with a table and chairs isolated from the view and noise. At the end of the porch is a grill. The apartment is 26 sqm.
The hosts gladly do additional services like a common dinner with the guests with grill, advice of good restaurants on the island, places for night life and entertainment or anything else. We don’t offer board, but there is a couple of restaurants in the village and the possibility of arranging board food. In Zavala there is a small but well equipped grocery store and a bakery.
Island Hvar Climate
The island is characterized by gentle winters, warm summers and many hours of sunshine. Gentle and moist winters (January in Hvar has an average temperature of 8.4° C) have many advantages, among other things enabling winter tourism in Hvar. Maximum temperatures are never too high to render agriculture impossible (the highest recorded temperature of 37° C was reached in 1935). The average annual air temperature is around 16.5° C, while autumns are warmer than springs, which prolongs the growing period.
Hvar has an annual average of 7.7 hours sunshine per day and 3.8 hours of cloud. (By comparison Dubrovnik has 7.0 hours of sunshine and 4.4 hours of cloud; Nice /South of France/ 7.2 and 4.2 respectively). A general belief in the health-giving effects of sunny regions led to the discovery of this "Adriatic Madeira" as early as the 19th century. It has the most hours of sunshine on the Adriatic coast, with as much as 2715 per year, and only small variations in temperature. "The Hygienic Society" was founded in 1868, and the first health hotel was opened in 1889, while The Centre for Allergies of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences was founded in 1965
